Here comes summer
As we move into spring, the winter sports wind down and the summer sports start up. Rugby saw an outstanding season, where College came equal 1st in the UC competition when we tied with Christchurch Boys' High School in the final. There are many reasons for the success of College rugby. The outstanding coaching, team management and support from our parent committees. However, undoubtedly, sponsorship plays a major part in that success. We have 46 sponsors and many of them are longstanding and have committed to several years of support. This relationship is everything to our College success and we look forward to growing these important connections as we continue to flourish.
As rugby finishes, rowing is now beginning to start up. Anyone who has been involved with rowing knows what a marathon commitment it is. The long drives to Twizel and back, the regattas, the food! Again, we could not do it without the huge back-story that goes behind the boys winning Maadi twice in the last four years. Without our sponsors, none of this level of excellence would be achieved.
Other sponsored sports are hockey and football. Darrell Thatcher is not only the school’s Director of Boarding & Centre of Character and Leadership, but he also runs the hockey programme and has done a great job engaging sponsors to support the programme. Harper House Master Matt Cortesi leads football, and this year the boys are off to North America on the biennial football tour. Matt and his boys have done an outstanding job finding sponsors for both the club and the tour. We look forward to hearing about some of the tour highlights.
